Another Brick In The Wall

Another Brick In The Wall
Originally uploaded by yo_paully.

Most of us spent day our working with brick again, laying and mortaring as well as separating and stacking. Dana, Paul, Dale, and Rivcah all separated and stacked the bricks. Julia was painting with Pat in the morning and stacking bricks later. Tova was mixing the mortar for the brick. Bob went into town with JR. Today was a great communication day, we really connected with some of the workers and shared stories about family, friends, sports and our countries.

Ann had a different experience going to a school for the blind, about an hour and a half away. She brought vegetables and meat for the students from the butcher shop. She took a number of pictures at the shop... very different from the Loblaws shopping experience. They also visited a government school for all students which had a lot of blind children. One interesting thing that was there, was that they had a number of Albino kids that have brown markings on their faces which was cancer, as if they didn't have enough challenges already.

We had a short day and took part of the afternoon to individually reflect and process all that we've seen and experienced this past week. We've all learned so much and have been touched on many levels.

Later in the day we visited an outside mall, which is rare in this part of Africa. The mall was in a compound, which is an example of the separation in classes in Malawi. The rich shop in places like this, the poor (majority) go to the markets.

For dinner, we had a BBQ with some other Canadian missionaries. There are 8 Canadian families who are based in Lilongwe all doing various kinds of missionary work in Malawi.

Tomorrow is a day off, we will be going to Lake Malawi, one of the largest markets in Africa. It will be an early morning... Good Night.

Each day I clock watch waiting for the daily entry. From about 4 in the afternoon I start checking the blogger every 20-30 minutes just at the hopes of getting a tiny tidbit of an update; wondering what it is that might get said, seeing if I might get to see another picture of my husband who I just can't stop missing. Don't you dare miss a day of entry!!
For those of you that are wondering, yes they are reading our comments every night and look forwards to our comments. They sit around together and read the messages about 12 hours after they post theirs.I just got off the phone with Dale and I think I said little more than I miss you over and over. I havent been able to stop crying since I got off the phone. It's been a week and yet in some ways it feels like a lifetime. I am so proud of you Dale, and the rest of the team. (and if I didn't say it I MISS YOU).

Reading about towing the jelopy yesteday and thinking of the pain that man must have been feeling and thinking that he might lose his truck if he could not push it all the way home and then God sends you to help him out. The blessings he must have felt when you asked if you could tow him.
Today's day seemed like a physically draining day but obviously one of necessity if we want to get this house built. Keep praying for strength as you get tired both physically and emotionally.
I'm very curious to hear how they choose the children for the Village and what criteria they use to choose the children. I can't wait to hear stories about Ann's day at the school for the blind.
I can't help but feel a tug at my heart that I am meant to do a trip like this, not building,of course with my health I couldn't, but God is tugging. I've already been out getting more skipping ropes:)I better try and get some sleep now. I hope you enjoyed your day at Lake Malawi, I googled it earlier and found out a lot about it; it's the 3rd largest lake in Africa. "The lake contains a greater variety of indigenous species of fish than any other lake in the world. World Wildlife Fund researchers have identified over 500 species to date that are not found anywhere else in the world. Most of these fish are in the cichlid family and are brightly colored and patterned. " Kinda cool eh. Gotta go get some sleep now. Miss ya honey, see you next week. LOVE U, Andrea (BG)

"My grandfather once told me that there were two kinds of people: those who do the work

and those who take the credit.

He told me to try to be in the first group; there was much less competition."
~ Mohandas Gandhi ~

Be proud to be in the first group; to have the 'guts', the drive, the ambition, the ability.... but more importantly THE WANT to be there. You 9 are special people, don't ever think any differently.

All of you are involved in a life altering mission. None of you will ever be the same. You will see the world through very different eyes and will be able to help others do the same.

Dale, I can hardly wait for you and Andrea to come see us this summer. We can sit on our safe, secure deck, eat good food and hear all about this incredible adventure.

You are all doing G-d's work over there.

Thank you for being there.

Love to you and all the team,
Aunt Peg

I read what I wrote at the wee hours of the morning and think I goofed when I said you read the messages 12 hours after you posted. I think Dale said they would be reading them in about 12 hours (we talked at 8am your time so about 8pm-after dinner probably??)Anyways the point is you like getting our messages and do get to read them just so everyone knows.

I just talked to your folks and their computer was down for a couple days (Rogers problems)but they are back up and running and read the Africa posts each night before bed. I filled them in as much as I remembered from our conversation and they were happy to hear you're all doing well.
Twister decided he needed to get into the spare room early this morning and proceeded to pull the baby gate down which crashed, knocked the shredder over sending everything flying all over the place and me jumping out of bed to see what he was up to this time-not something I wanted to happen after 4 hours sleep.ugh!

Casey is doing a mother's day sermon at Church tomorrow and Jon has said they will put some of the pictures up on the screen from your trip for everyone to see.
Have sweet dreams hun, I love you.xoxo A.

I can't believe how emotional it is to read your daily journal. Paul, you are truly blessing us all with your beautiful way of communicating.
Each one of you is proving to us that one person can make a real difference in this world. Mike and I read these messages together and are in awe of all of you. The house looks wonderful. We can't believe how much you've done in such a short amount of time. You make us feel like we're right there with you and we thank you so much.
Just as your hearts and lives are changing and growing with this awesome experience, our hearts are doing the same when you share your stories.
Keep it coming - we all want to be just like you all when we grow up!

Cathy and Mike
