After clearing customs, we were met by our hosts JR and Ivy Andrews along with Scott and Nancy Hunter - a fine bunch of Newfoundlanders. We made it back to the house and some of us had a chance to visit a village a few minutes down the road. What an experience to see the reality of life that is present in Africa. Incredible. The children were so happy to see us, they came running to have their picture taken. They were especially excited to see themselves on video! After only a few hours in Malawi, we had an incredible experience, one that I know I'll never forget!

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

After a long flight from London, via Rome (9 hrs 15min) we made our first touch down in Africa – Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Though the political situation here is stable, armed soldiers at their posts were visible as we landed…

A few facts about Addis Ababa:

- Addis Ababa is 7000 feet above sea level. Apparently this prevents flights from landing here at night.

- The landscape is quite mountainous which provides beautiful scenery.

- From the plane, we had a good look at many small villages as we approached the Airport – the red dirt roads were an outstanding feature.

After a short 1 hour layover we boarded our flight for Lilongwe!
